electric breast pump recommendations

New postby Peanut1973 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 3:18 pm

Hi, can anyone recommend an electric breast pump? Have been looking at the Medela Swing & Avent IQ - does anyone have one of these? if so, what are they like?
Any advice would be gratefully received, K x

I only ever used a manual one but did like the Avent brand.

I've heard it suggested before that you hire one before buying to see if it's suitable so that you don't spend loads of money on something you don't get on with.

I used a single Medela one, and it was great - easy to clean / sterilise etc.. I bought it new on Ebay cheaper than in the shops, and sold it for the same price I paid for it.

I had the Avent Isis IQ one. I had bought the avent manual one and was getting on fine with it and as I was expressing all of Williams feeds - I also bought the Avent electric one too so that I could do both sides at the same time.

It was very easy to use. It was nice that you can control the rhythm of the pumping action. I have no problems with it. It wasn't the quietest but I don't think any of them are really quiet? SOmetimes if we were watching a movie - I just used it manually instead as you can still use it manually.

I was also using the Avent bottles and of course you pump straight into the bottles so I chose that one to save extra sterilising.

If you have any specific questions - please ask.

I had the Avent one and loved it. Was so easy to use and to clean.

I had the medula one and it was good but a bit fierce and terribly noisy especially if like me you have to get up at 4am to express!

I also had the Closer to nature hand pump and I loved it. Sadly it has gone mouldy in my my Mums loft but I fully intend to buy another one for this baby.
