Welcome to Squidgers Cause!!!
Hi my name is Debbie Ellis, My Son Flynn Ellis was born on 27th August 2008 at Southend-on-Sea Hospital, he was born 1 month early due to having high anti-bodies. This was caused by our bloods fighting while he was in the womb. The Doctors at Great Ormond Street also found out, when I was pregnant with me, that he had chondrodysplasia punctata. This is secondary to dwarfism, I also have brittle bone disorder & liver and spine problems. As a result of my disorder & problems I was taken into the Special care baby unit as soon as I was born. I was in there for one & a half weeks, then put on to a general baby ward. The Doctors and Nurses were fantastic!!! he was then sent to Great Ormond Street where the Doctors were doing more investigations due to his condition. he will continue to be in the care of all my consultants at Southend & Great Ormond Street Hospitals until adulthood.
Because of what I, and my family have been through (and will still have to endure) I thought it appropriate to hold fundraising events to raise money for both hospitals and raise awareness of chondrodysplasia punctata. I thought starting locally would be a good way of showing our future intentions.
"WE ARE LOOKING FOR ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET PLEASE"
All money that is raised by “squidgerscause” will be shared between SOUTHEND SPECIAL CARE BABY UNIT/NEPTUNE WARD and GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITALS.
My aim is to be proactive in this cause. This event will be the first of many and Hopefully after this, I will aim to organize more fund raising events in the future.
If there is any one out there who has a child with this condition, and you feel you need someone to chat with, do please contact me, as I know what it is like to feel isolated. Very few people have knowledge of this rare condition.
"A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL NURSE'S, DOCTOR'S, CONSULTANTS AND STAFF"
