Essex Mums Book Challenge 2012

New postby weezypops » Sun Jan 01, 2012 9:18 pm

Thought I'd start a new thread for the new year!

This year I aim to read 20,000 pages. I'm currently reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein but I'm not really enjoying it. I know it's supposed to be really good but I'm finding it pretty boring at the moment and am considering moving on to something else, which is quite unlike me!

I plan to read 6 books (non uni). I know its not much but I have a lot of reading for uni and six seems like a doable amount!

I've given up on one and started on another. I just wasn't enjoying it. I did read 139 pages of it though so am counting them.I've now started on Roddy Doyle - The Deportees.

I would like to join in too and aim for 10 books this year. Although it should be more considering I've wanted to write a book since I was 8 and I haven't written it yet, so I should be reading more, shouldn't I? sigh :-( - yeah, 10 books this year. I'm currently reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua.

I've never read that but have heard it's quite an interesting read that you either really disagree with her on or feel the same way!

I've finished The Deportees and am now reading One Day by David Nicholls

Have finally finished The Little Friend - it was really good but I couldn't stay awake long enough to manage more than a couple of pages a night and it was very small writing!

Can't see me reaching the target but never mind!

Now reading Dawn French - A Tiny Bit Marvellous

Finished Dawn French - A Tiny Bit Marvellous - it was quite good. A nice story though not especially well written in places which surprised me. Have started The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Would have loved to join in this year but think I will have trouble even finishing one book but will give it a go.

Louise, what did you think of "One Day"? Were you as sideswiped as me by what happens? I was devestated for a good couple of days. I enjoyed The Hunger Games but didn't feel inspired to continue reading the series. Meg has read all three and loves them, she dragged me to see the film which i thought was good but not "amazing" like she thought. I am currently reading a lot of true crime books on my kindle atm. Feel the need to actually read a fiction book but nothing is tickling my fancy really.

I really enjoyed it but was pretty shocked, yes - it wasn't what I was expecting at all! I had grown quite fond of the main characters too which always makes it harder!

So far I'm enjoying the Hunger Games as I love a bit of dystopian sci-fi but it reminds me an awful lot of Battle Royale, though I do also love that.

Have you read Room?
