For some reason I always think Ashleigh is already 13! So when will she be old enough to babysit? Kester and I were saying the other day she would be perfect for the job when she's old enough!

Yay! It would be nice to have a reliable teenager we could use for babysitting so we didn't always have to ask Mum and Dad.

Actually, that gives me an idea for a thread!

Hello all, this is my first post. Im from Linford, near Stanford le hope. I feel a bit silly because I am an Essex Mum but of older kids. Well I only have 2 teenagers left (1 boy and 1 girl) well one is 18 and the other is 18 in August and the other 2 (boys) are 21 now. But believe me it brings different challenges, should they go to college, when are they going to get out of bed and get a job, when should they apply for university, why do they think they are men when their brains are still like boys. Well i've been through all that, so if anyone has any hints or tips let me know and i can try to help if anyone needs support.

By the way i saw this on the parenting without tears website
"The law is vague in this area - there is no minimum age - but the NSPCC recommends children under 16 should not be used as babysitters. However many teens start when they are 14 or 15. A parent knows how reliable and mature their son or daughter is – don’t suggest babysitting if you think they won’t cope. A 14 year-old can be very mature and reliable whereas a 17 year-old might still not be sensible enough to leave in charge of young children" hope this helps :D :D

Thanks! I think it does really depend on the teenager as you say - I babysat from about 14 or 15 but I think plenty of others wouldn't be ready to do it when they were in their later teens!

Yep, Ashleigh has been in this category for nearly a year now and I have to say it's not much fun. We are going through all the teenage confusions and moody hormones at the moment!
