The Wick Community Centre
Tymperleys Museum (free admission) is part of a bigger 15th-century
timber-framed house and was opened as a museum in 1987, principally to
display the Bernard Mason Collection of Colchester Clocks and watches.
The visitor steps back in time visiting this fifteen century
timber-framed house once home of William Gilberd, scientist and
physician to Queen Elizabeth I. This beautiful museum is home
to the largest collection of Colchester clocks in Britain. Enjoy the
medieval-style garden and unique atmosphere of one of Colchester’s most
fascinating buildings. It is popular with town centre workers
who use it as a lunch-time spot to have their picnic lunch and is also
popular with visitors generally in the town who come across this little
oasis of calm in the town centre. This museum does tend to attract the
retired market and also those with a particular interest in Horology.
This museum is open seasonally - April to October which is different to
the other sites across the service which are open all year round.
